My phone started buzzing like it had lost its mind. It seemed louder and harder than normal. I could feel it vibrating against the bed. With the way it was going off, I already knew there was an alert for a message. Not wanting to be bothered by it, I ignored it. Besides, it was somewhere lost under my covers, and I didn’t feel like searching for the device. I should turn it off, but after the incident, I promised Mac I’d leave the phone on. Always. At least until she felt comfortable that I wouldn’t disappear again. Like it was my fault to begin with, but I didn’t mind. Just meant she was being a big sister bear. I loved her for it. Always have, always will.

I turned the page on the book I was reading because I was at a really good part. Reading time was sacrilege to me. It was how I relaxed and fell away from the real world. I refused to let a text message interrupt my reading. If it was that important, whoever it was on the other side of the message would call instead of sending another message. The only person I could think of who would be bothering me would’ve been Rafael.

I exhaled a heavy sigh and sent up a quick prayer and hoped it really wasn’t him bugging me for anything in particular. Especially not after our conversation from earlier. He’d asked to come over, but I turned him down. It was obvious what he wanted. More sex. He said it was great, but him coming in a couple of minutes after two pumps and a squeaky groan, I wasn’t that keen on doing the mattress tango with him again. Which was sad because I somewhat liked the guy. We clicked and had things in common with each other, but was that really enough for me? I needed balance. Sweet guy and bad sex didn’t go together. I had needs, and that would only last so long.

That was what was bothering me the most. I wanted more and deep down; I knew Rafael wasn’t going to be that for me. Maybe Roman and Mac both were right about him. Which only confused me even more. I hated it when they were right.

The vibrations started up once more after I turned another page. I let out a frustrated sigh and put the book down to search for my cellphone. It wasn’t under the covers like I had originally thought, but hiding under the pillows when I grabbed it. Unlocking the phone, I realized I had two missed messages, and they were both from Roman.

My heart skipped a beat.

What the heck was that?

When I pressed the message, it opened the messenger app.
